After you have mastered the skill of Idling. Learning to idle with only one foot is actually quite easy.
Photo by Wayne KlufasHow to learn to idle with only one foot:
- First learn how to idle. (Click here for instructions)
- Make sure you can idle comfortably in one place without drifting around and without swinging your arms violently.
- Practice idling while using very little pressure on the top peddle. As you practice use less and less pressure on the top pedal until you are hardly using it.
- Go into a doorway or anywhere you can find with flat ground and something to hold on to on either side.
- While idling in the doorway and holding on to both sides take your top foot off the peddle. Place your foot on the frame of your unicycle.
(Place your foot where the arrow is pointing.)
- You will need to keep the unicycle rocking back and forth with the foot that is on the bottom pedal.
- You will need to get into a rhythm of pushing the pedal down then relaxing. (Then pushing the pedal down then relaxing again...)
- The pedal is pushed down when it is angled toward the back, once the pedal reaches the bottom relax and let the momentum carry the pedal forward. (This motion will move the unicycle back tipping your weight toward the front)
- Now the pedal is angled toward the front push it down again, once the pedal reaches the bottom relax and let the momentum carry the pedal back again. (This motion will move the unicycle forward tipping your weight toward the back)
- Repeat steps 8 & 9 until you start to get a good rhythm down.
- Make sure to alternate feet while practicing so you will be able to idle with either foot.
Now it is just a mater of practice until you can time the pedal movements to keep your balance.
After you have learned how to idle with 1 foot try to improve your skill by trying to idle in a small area on the floor Practice idling with 1 foot while your arms are folded.
Good luck learning to idle with 1 foot!
